Court Sends Ifeanyi Ubah Way For Using a Forged Certificate To Contest Election
On Friday, a Federal High Court in Abuja refused to overturn its ruling that quashed the election of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah from the Young People’s Party, YPP.
Ifeanyi Ubah lost his Senate post after the court again refused to set aside its former judgment.
On April 11, 2019, the court nullified Ifeanyi Ubah’s victory for allegedly using a false certificate from the National Examination Council certificate to contest the senatorial election held in Anambra South on February 23, 2019, Vanguard reported. .
The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to withdraw the return certificate issued in Ubah and issue a new one to Dr Obinna Uzoh of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, who placed second in elections.
On December 4, 2019, the court ordered all parties, including INEC, to maintain status-quo after Ubah filed for stay of execution, with a claim that he and his legal team were not served with the court processes nor hearing notice with respect to the suit.
However, in a decision rendered on Friday, Justice Kawu held that Senator Ubah’s application to vacate its judgement lacked merit and accordingly dismissed it.
