Asaba Doctors Fall Prey To Two Pregnant Women, See the Court Decisions

Two doctors from the Federal Medical Center, Asaba, appeared before the Nigeria Medical and Dental Council to face charges of gross professional negligence.
The doctors, Iyiola Adewale and Adigba Onodjohwoyovwe, are accused of serious professional negligence resulting in the death of the patient for whom they are responsible.
The prosecutor’s council, Nasiru Aliyu, told the court in Asaba on Monday that the defendants on duty on 7 March 2017 had treated one of their patients, a pregnant woman, Rita Uchebuego, late.
According to the prosecutor, they failed to take care of her as it was appropriate for the management of his condition.
Aliyu stated that the offense was punishable under section 16 of the Practitioners of Medicine and Dentistry Act.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty.
Professor Abba Hassan, president of the court, sent the case back to 24 September.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that the court was created to try the offenses under the law on doctors and dentists.
This is the third session of the court in 2019 and had already sentenced some doctors at its second session for malpractice.
