The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested two suspected drug traffickers in the Etsako East Local Government Area in Edo State.

It was learned that the fake policemen, who wore the force uniform, were intercepted while carrying 50 bags of dried sativa cannabis weights weighing 685 kg along the Okpella road. and Okene.

They allegedly traveled with a Toyota Hiace black bus, bearing the mark Ondo AKR 392 LZ and labeled with stickers of the Nigerian police emblem.

The state commander, Edo, Mr. Buba Wakawa, while confirming the arrest on Friday, identified the fake policemen as Matthew Onumba and Ojukwwu Henry.

 

Wakawa described them as members of a drug syndicate specializing in the smuggling of cannabis from the south to the north-west of the country.

He said the bus took off from Uzebba in the Owan West local government area towards Kaduna after being intercepted during a search operation by agents of the agency.

He added that the smugglers had also attached a siren to the vehicle to avoid security checks by the police.

The commander also revealed that 2412 kg of cannabis had been seized when members of the command force broke into an Okpuje forest as part of a separate operation.

He said: “The black bus (Toyota), with frosted glass, wore a siren and police stickers in the front and rear to deceive the unsuspecting public as well as the security personnel. He has all the paraphenalia of an official police vehicle but everything is a trick.

“We have invested so much in this operation and I am happy that our efforts have been rewarded.”
