A professor was filmed holding her student’s baby at a conference so the mother could take notes.

Last Thursday, when a university student in Georgia could not find a babysitter, his professor volunteered to hold the student’s baby while lecturing an anatomy class of three hours.

A photo of this class shows the world what kindness and compassion look like.

Ramata Sissoko Cissé, an assistant professor of biology at Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, a suburb of Atlanta, told CNN that one of her students had called her late at night before class to let Cisse know that her Babysitter was sick. For this reason, the student had to bring her baby to Cisse’s anatomy and physiology course the next day.

The professor, mother of three children, gave him the green light.

“The fact that she trusted me made me feel that I needed to help,” said Cissé. “It’s like a moral responsibility.”
But in class, the baby kept moving and it was difficult for the student to hold her son and write at the same time.

“I said,” Give me the baby, “Cisse said.

However, Cissé could not hold the baby and write on the whiteboard during the heroinatomy conference.

The baby has become a learning tool

So Cisse improvised. She found a white coat and tied the baby to her back.

The baby fell asleep quickly and was quiet for the rest of the class. Cissé was able to integrate the baby into the lesson by developing concepts related to the nervous system, brain function and metabolism.

A student asked why he was able to sleep so quietly.

Cissé explained that he was comfortable and warm, with the temperature of his body next to him and that the corresponding heat allowed him to relax more easily.

Later, when the baby was hungry and the bottle was cold, she explained that warming up the milk would help the baby’s metabolism.

A spokeswoman for Georgia Gwinnett College told CNN that the child’s mother had asked not to be identified.

“I teach because they have to be prepared for life”

Cissé said the student had sent her an email after class to thank her and said, “I’m always here for you.” And the student replied, “I know.”

These two words mattered a lot to her.

Many Cissé students become nurses or doctors or work in other health professions. She said that lecturing them science was only part of her mission to prepare them for life after school.

“Love and compassion are part of the philosophy of my class,” said Cissé.

She hopes to be able to instill these qualities by embodying them at teachable moments, such as keeping her baby in the lecture hall, because being a good health care provider is not just about studying textbooks.

“I hope they can spread the love, pass it on to other people who need it,” she said.
