No fewer than 300 homes and several farmland were destroyed by the devastating floods in Ngalda, Yobe, in Nigerian.

The floods, which followed days of persistent rains, also destroyed schools and livestock.

According to the NAN, Alhaji Idi Gubana, the state’s deputy governor, who visited the community on Friday, was shocked by the level of destruction and pledged government support to the victims.

“The level of destruction is devastating; it’s pretty unfortunate. The government will provide relief support to the victims, “said Gubana.

He added that Governor Mai Mala Buni, currently in Saudi Arabia for the pilgrimage, had instructed the Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide food, clothing, mattresses and blankets to the victims.

“The agency will supply 140 bags of rice, 141 blankets, 141 pieces of women’s wrapping, five men’s clothing balls, mosquito nets, buckets, among others,” he said.

He assured the victims that the government would work to find a permanent solution to the annual floods in the area.

“The acting secretary of the state government will liaise with the Ministry of Environment and SEMA to work to relocate people in the affected area to a safer home,” he said.

He congratulated the community for hosting most affected families in their homes.
“You have shown a good spirit of fraternity worthy of praise and emulation,” he said.
