Nigeria Senate mace Forcefully Taken Away By Suspected Thugs of a Senator-Suspected thugs of Senator representing the Delta Central Senatorial District, Oviedo Omo-Agege have invaded the chambers and forcefully taken away symbol of authority of the parliament in red SUV today Wednesday.
The incident happened a few seconds after a senator, Ovie Omo-Agege, entered the chamber.
We reported that about 10 suspected thugs who came to the door with the senator forced their entrance into the chamber.
They broke into the room when plenary was going on, creating serious confusion and tension.
A Seconds later, the thugs ran out of the chamber with the mace cause of pandemonium in the Senate.They left the National Assembly with the mace in a black SUV,the mace is the symbol of authority of the parliament.
One of the security personnel at the entrance of the National Assembly said they were with the senator.
“We tried to stop them but they were with him (Omo-Agege),” he said.
The senators was handed over to the police for more interrogation at the time of filing this report
It could be recalled that the election was rescheduled.
This development has, hitherto, thrown the Senate, and the entire National Assembly into reality and fear of what really happened.
The snatched mace is the symbol of authority that unit and makes the house to hold.
Discussions right now is being held in groups and hush tones as to what might be the next line of action.
This development has been the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu was presiding over the plenary in the absence of the Senate President, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki is currently at the World Bank event in the United States.
