Chief Ike Ekweremadu, CFR, served as pioneer chairman of Aninri Local Government Area, Enugu State, South East Nigeria, between 1997 and 1998.
Within this period, he discovered that bureaucracy and other bottlenecks often derailed welfare programs meant for the less-privileged other disadvantaged members of society; and instead of reducing the incidence of poverty and promoting social inclusion, these programs are being raised and raised.
He was even more pained by the level of insensitivity displayed by majority of public office holders in Nigeria, who saw (and still see) public office not as avenue of service to the people but as means for acquisition of wealth.
Thus, before leaving office the structures for the formation of a Foundation through which it could directly intervene to ameliorate the devastating effects of poverty in various communities in Nigeria and beyond.
He was determined to use whatever resources he had to fight poverty, illiteracy, and ignorance. And more than 20 years down the line, he has kept faith with his beliefs by investing huge sums of money in

Conditions for application
Applicants must be brilliant, indigent and of good character
Applicants must be indigenes of Enugu State made up of the 17 L.G.As in Enugu State
Application for scholarship award is open to first year students in universities in Nigeria only
Application for bursary award is open to students in penultimate and final year in polytechnics and universities in Nigeria
Applicants must attach the necessary documents stated in the application form
